Recycled Plastic

Spherical carbon particles (SCPs) are produced from waste products, such as used plastic bags. They are of interest because of their possible application as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries. These spheres made at ANL are synthesized by autogenic reactions that involve the decomposition of one or more hydrocarbon precursors at elevated temperatures under self-generated pressure.
